style="text-align: justify;">Social media has become increasingly important for all of us. It can greatly affect our career. Have some silly photos of you and your friends acting stupid when you were drunk at Christmas, and the next thing you know, you are not getting that promotion, and you start getting the feeling that you are not really wanted in the office anymore, and you don’t know why. Some people are getting obsessed with social media, Facebook and Twitter marketing. They have come to see themselves as a brand.

(credits: GOIABA (Goiabarea))

The worst personal experience I have had personally, more than once, is when I have met people in a social situation, we have had a good conversation, and then they ask for a Facebook profile. Soon after they don’t speak to you again when you meet them in public because you only have a few friends on Facebook and you are not ‘popular’ enough for them. It is important to manage our time on Facebook and other social media websites.

For some people, they have become addicted to the use of Facebook, and all they do is sit on it all day. They could be getting out, meeting real people, enjoying life, and actually doing something. Here is a look at how we can manage our Facebook life:

Time Constraint

We wouldn’t think it was appropriate to sit in front of the television for 8 hours a day, and do little else, and there is no reason why one should be sitting in front of Facebook for ridiculous amounts of time either. Set yourself a time limit for how long you will allow yourself to gossip, chat and be internet social.

Friends

The concept of friends online is very interesting. Facebook is much more useful when you actually know and have an interest in the people who are associated with your account. Do you really need to be adding all that junk on your account? If someone is not communicating with you via Facebook, and you don’t have a real relationship with them (a Facebook relationship is not a relationship), you should dump them from your account.

Not Real

Have you realised how much of what is happening on Facebook is not actually real? There are numerous fake accounts and fake people on Facebook. Those accounts are so obvious. They are the ones with women wearing a bikini looking alluring or the guy with the six pack abs. They will have 3 photos, little information, and randomly make a comment to everyone. Every now and then, she will tell you how great a product she has used is. She is a fake profile used by a guerrilla marketing company to push products and services.

Privacy

Facebook has been the subject of a lot of debate about privacy. Despite their attempts to give users more control it is struggling with so many users. Hacking, identity theft as well as stolen images have become problems. With so much personal information available on the site you can understand why so many criminals are trying to use it to run scams.

Gossip Book

Unless you are using it in a mature and controlled fashion, or you are using it for effective business purposes, such as boosting your SEO or career in a mature fashion, you might have a problem. Are you behaving like a snotty teenager, gossiping, acting obsessively and suffering from Facebook-nervosa?

<a

There are so many interactive services and activities that are available to not only the individual user but business interests as well. Online projects and endeavors need to integrate social networking into their overall strategy to best utilize their internet presence and grow. These are the places where customers gather to share their ideas, likes, and dislikes. Being a part of that allows a business to grow better relationships with their customers in addition to facilitating the spread of relevant information.

SEO and Social Networking

Any doubts about the importance of social networking to an online presence should be dispelled when looking at the search engines. Major search engines such as Bing, Google, and Yahoo are all taking steps to better integrate social information into results. Bing was the leader of the pack by drawing on Facebook Likes and Fan pages to help gauge popularity of a subject. Yahoo and Google are following similar suit to take advantage of the dynamic nature of social networking to find the most relevant results for a search.

As it currently stands, social network ratings do not have a huge impact on SEO efforts. The industry seems to be in the phase of figuring out how to best draw on and utilize the information in a way that will be appropriate. For example, Bing offers a social oriented search which uses data from entities such as Facebook to help determine what appears on search engine result pages. However, you can also plug the information into a regular search query to generate a result that draws from traditional SEO practices.

Looking To Future Projects

A very apparent trend is the embracing of social media values to help determine what is relevant, authoritative content. The approach closely mirrors traditional link-building except on a much faster pace. Social networks simply move at a quicker pace than any other locations we may frequent on the internet. Users can update, Tweet, or tag on the go as often as they want. That provides the potential to simulate viral marketing and make an impact on a large audience in a relatively narrow timeframe.

A good, recent example of this was the “HOPA” girl who stuck it to a boss that referred to her in a derogatory way through text on white boards. She gave the impression she was standing up for herself while pointing out that the network activity showed her manager playing Farmville for several hours a week on the clock. That story and accompanying video spread faster than wildfire because of social networks. It wasn’t until a few days after the fact that it was discovered it was a staged marketing ploy to attempt to simulate viral marketing.

Preparing For Tomorrow

Your business, product, or message can benefit from the same kind of exposure especially as social networking is better integrated into the general internet experience. We are looking at an environment that is already starting to use the weight of some social page PageRanks to help contribute to results placement. Search engines are not releasing details but it is an activity that is confirmed.

A business cannot solely rely on traditional methods to generate online success. A business needs to have a social networking presence if they want to compete in the ever evolving online environment of tomorrow. Doing so will not only provide benefit in terms of search results but provide a great opportunity to better integrate with participants to facilitate the spread of information. There is no downside. The sooner a business gets onboard the better off they will be a year from now either through better rankings or exposure.

<a

Indeed, guest blogging has become a marketing goldmine and all self-respecting online business owners tend to create a discourse around their product or service in blogosphere. Not all of them have the ability to write excellent posts which make the readers beg for more. Still any writing skills aren’t inherent or intuitive. Instead, good writing is a learned skill and it may be easily developed through practice.

If you’re preparing to plunge into guest-posting, you will need not only a knack for writing but a bunch of good tools to aid you in daily chores. Here is a roundup of handy web and PC-based applications which I find indispensable for everyone aiming at comfortable and effective guest-posting.

Evernote

Those who get tired of MS Word and OpenOffice, will definitely love this free note-taking app. Evernote is an ideal solution for drafting a guest post. Its main asset is being perfectly cross-platform: notes are easily accessible from a PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android phone and from the Web. Beside text notes, Evernote can keep whole web pages or excerpts, images, HTML code, PDFs, music, business cards, etc. Everything added to Evernote is automatically synchronized and made searchable. Evernote is also remarkable for its auto-saving, absence of cumbersome editing tools and ability to email notes.

FastStone Capture

Every guest post requires images, to say nothing about software roundups or reviews – here screenshots are a must. FastStone Capture greatly simplifies the task of taking snapshots of any screen fragments – full screen, active software windows, drop-down menus, web pages, or any selected areas of the above mentioned. Just hit the PrintScreen key and save your image in a desired format copy it to the clipboard. FastStone also has a basic image editor that lets crop, resize, rotate, adjust colour of the capture, add captions, print or email images. The only unpleasant feature that it has only 30-day trial and it’s $19.95 to register a version.

<a

It’s a great place to find images on any topic you’d like, just type a query in search and browse thousands of cool images that are Creative Commons licensed, meaning you can use them in your post as long as you attribute credit to the image owner. Plus, Flickr has a huge community of photographers who share their impressive photos there.

<a

Still some resources have a very strict backlink policy and put tag “nofollow” for any external links. To figure out such blogs, use NoDoFollow – a helpful Firefox extension that lets see if links on a page are <a

It highlights all the links according to their follow status: blue for dofollow, red for nofollow. The extension is compatible with Firefox 4 and up.

<a

SMO specialists recommend to retweet your own content multiple times a day for different time zones. Bufferapp lets perfectly complete this task. This is a free web-based app which allows you to arrange tweeting as many times a day as you wish and keep your social presence while you’re absent. A convenient analytics tool provides feedback details on every bufferapp post. There’s also a similar option to schedule Facebook posts.

It’s needless to say how grammar and spelling are important for a guest blogger, especially for a non-native speaker. Here WordWeb comes to the aid. This is a free powerful dictionary and thesaurus program that provides the definition, synonyms, antonyms of any given word without requiring you to go online. It has about 150,000 words in its database and allows you to look up a word in online reference sites. The app is also notable for its hot key support: you simply use a hot key combo when the cursor is pointed over any word, and WordWeb will pop up onscreen with all pertinent information. The Pro version ($19.50) includes more word definitions, advanced Web search options and other features.

<a

As a newbie blogger, you may come to think that there is no real benefit of joining LinkedIn. But, that is as far from the truth as the moon is from the earth. There are many reasons for bloggers to not only join, but also take active participation in this vibrant community of professionals from all four corners of the globe.

Here are the most obvious LinkedIn benefits for bloggers.

1. Brand yourself

LinkedIn profile is an excellent way to build personal brand and promote yourself as a blogging expert. A complete, well-planned, and linked profile is a powerful way to show off your professional achievements and expertise. Your LinkedIn profile sums up your professional experience, career history, education, skills and interests. It gives you an opportunity to demonstrate what you can do for others (your target audience). LinkedIn profile is an important part of your public image and credibility. Promote it on your blog and in your email signature by adding link View my profile on LinkedIn.

2. Promote your blog

LinkedIn gives you an opportunity to add customized links to your blogs or websites. You can add up to three personal links in your profile. But, you can also use LinkedIn applications like WordPress and Blog Link to promote your blog feed on your LinkedIn profile. This is an awesome way to give you profile visitors the sneak preview of your blog content.

3. Increase blog Traffic

It is a well known fact that as bloggers we use social networks to promote our blog content and increase traffic to our blogs. When it comes to LinkedIn, you can share links with your connections only, groups you belong to, or publicly, with everyone who visits your profile. But, use this opportunity wisely and don’t bombard your connections and groups with links. That may have counter effect. You certainly don’t want to brand yourself as a spammer.

4. Build your network

LinkedIn enables you to quickly grow your network and connect with others. You can easily search through your email contacts and see who already has a LinkedIn profile, find your ex-coworkers, school and college friends. LinkedIn also uses the system of connections to recommend users whom you may already know. LinkedIn logic is simple: The more connections you have, the more your network will grow. By adding connections you are increasing findability of your LinkedIn profile.

5. Build reputation and authority

There are authorities and leading experts in every field. If you want to position yourself as a blogging expert or blogging consultant, then you have to build your reputation in that field. LinkedIn can help you in this pursuit a lot. You can build your reputation and authority on LinkedIn through Linkedin Answers. LinkedIn answers and LinkedIn groups enable you to easily demonstrate your<a

As an active and helpful member of the groups you joined, you can increase your visibility and recognizability.
Another powerful way to position yourself as an expert is to get recommendations. Recommendations are personal endorsements and proofs that you deliver what you promise.

6) Find ideas for blog posts

LinkedIn questions and group discussions are absolutely amazing tools for generating blog post ideas. They provide an insight into what people want to know and need to learn. You may want to subscribe to new questions in your area of expertise. For example, if you are blogging about technology, it would be wise to subscribe to new questions in this category.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of LinkedIn benefits for bloggers. But these six are certainly good enough reasons to visit the site and click the button <a

Twitter is not only great for generating exposure, but also making connections. There are many tools available to create these connections, and email marketing is one that does not get nearly enough attention. This article will go into detail about how email marketing services can be used to increase your Twitter following.

<a

However, even with such a large number of people around the world sending out tweets on a daily basis, your profile will do nothing but collect dust if you do not let people know you’re there. You need to draw attention to yourself, and email marketing is more than up for the job. Whether it’s dropping a mention in your newsletter or building an entire campaign around your Twitter presence, there are plenty of ways it can be used to get the word out and convert your subscribers to followers.

Give ‘Em a Reason to Follow

Some marketers flop with their Twitter efforts because they do not commit to spreading the word and essentially give up before really getting started. Others flounder because they are doing social networking all wrong, mainly by failing to make a notable presence. If you want people to follow, you must give them a reason to connect. Create a compelling profile, and whatever Twitter content you decide to share in your email campaigns, make sure that it is relevant and interesting. The more intriguing your presence and content, the more people will want to keep up with you on the network.

Use Social Sharing

Would you like for your email campaigns to travel further? If the answer is yes, then both Twitter and your email marketing services can help. Many companies now offer social sharing buttons that can be easily incorporated into your campaigns. This is a convenient luxury that allows readers to share your messages with their friends in a single click. When it comes to email marketing, social sharing has two perks. First it gives your message the chance to reach more people than it would have been able to otherwise. Second, it gives you an opportunity to increase your number of followers. If your content is relevant and useful to them, why wouldn’t people want to follow you?

Conclusion

Email marketing services can serve as a complement to any <a

The platform is huge, and continues to show what a great tool it can be when used correctly. Choose the right service provider, and email marketing will help you get more out of your efforts on Twitter.

<a

Great content is extremely important, but even the best articles won’t get seen if they aren’t <a

This content not only needs to be seen, but seen by influential people in the niche. This is why becoming a “social authority” is one of the best ways to launch a site. Creating a popular Facebook page, Twitter account, Digg account, and online forum presence will promote your content to people who have a greater reach than you do. Once your social profile is well established, getting your message out will be much easier.

Your Brand Should Stand Out and not be Forgotten Like This!

Engaging In Forum Discussions

Establishing yourself as an authority on Internet forums can generate interest in your brand. One of the best examples i have ever seen of this was by an affiliate network owner. At the time he was an Internet marketer that was always helpful to everyone, always friendly, would answer any question you asked, and over time he gained a lot of respect in the community. Later, when he started his own affiliate network, everyone from the community quickly jumped on board. This helped him gain affiliates and grow a network at a time when networks were popping up like weeds. He now runs one of the most successful CPA networks in the space. In many cases, forums can be a huge time sink. But, if done with a goal in mind, it can be a way to promote yourself, your brand, and your products.

Building A Twitter Account

When twitter first launched, i have to admit, i did not get it. I thought it was for narcissistic people who thought everyone else cared that they “just ate a turkey sandwich for lunch”. But i stuck with it, and after a month or so, i began to understand why twitter was so important. Simply put, “it is a completely new way to communicate”. Twitter can be used to gain followers with like-interests. It is easy to create content for followers, due to the 140 character limit. One of the best way to create content is to link out to interesting articles or resources for people in your niche.

Treating your users well is important. You cannot just spam links to your site. It takes time to develop a relationship with followers so they pay attention to what you are saying. The quality of content you deliver should be the same that they grown to expect from your brand. Over time, this will help you build loyal group of people that are interested in your message and your products.

Building a Facebook Fanpage

Facebook is the 2nd most popular site on the internet and too huge to ignore. Its traffic is equal to or greater that of Google and has become the center of social interaction on the web. Creating a Facebook Fanpage is a way to connect to a group of users interested in your area of expertise. A Fanpage can be created within minutes, but gaining followers is more difficult. An easy, but more expensive way to gain followers is by advertising your page. Running a Facebook Ad is very easy and takes just a few minutes to setup. On the other hand, running a successful ad campaign that gets followers at a reasonable cost-per-acquisition is much more difficult. For the best results make targeted ads tailored to a very small group of people. Facebook Ads can target age, interests, jobs, and more. Pick a small group and make your headlines, images, and subjects specifically to capture the attention of this small group. This will increase click-through-rate of your ads and dramatically lower your costs.

Promoting your story on Digg

Digg.com is a social news site where users can promote their own stories. This site is skewed to a college male aged demographic and can bring a huge volume of traffic and links if a story is successful. They key to getting a story popular on this site is creating interesting content, specifically geared toward this demo. It is also important to build up a base of friends that will help you promote/digg your story. It is difficult to reach the front page, but if you make it, you will experience a flood of traffic that can send most servers crashing. You will also need to be prepared in case this does happen.

Building a well-known brand is the goal of most businesses. Creating social channels that can push your content out to customers is a proven way to grow a user base. Ignoring social media could be the difference between success and failure for your business. It is not easy to figure how to best use each platform, but taking the time and effort to learn each one is extremely valuable.

<a

To facilitate its use and prevent abuse effective policies are required. Some of these are already being formulated. One such bouquet of policies is being readied by the US government.

Mashable

Social media, commonly associated with Web2.0 technology, allows for content to be generated by individuals or communities for interaction and perhaps collaboration. Policies are expected to be framed by companies –public and private governing the use of community platforms within their organizations. In particular focus are the companies providing social media services spanning various geographies. But formulation of such policies or their procedures is easier said than done. A lot of parameters need to be taken into account failing which chaos and misuse might prevail. Ultimately it will be left to the judicial systems to define and operate such policy. The executive and the public may have to rush to the judiciary for resolution of disputes. Why? Because some of the policy may just touch the basic rights enshrined in constitution for individual citizen rights-like privacy, freedom of expression, right to dissent (though peacefully) etc.

From the side of enforcers of law, that is, the police have to make sure that policy provides clarity and accountability. This policy needs to be precisely worded and mention the functions and concerns of law enforcers. It also needs to be tailored to regional requirements.

Law enforcement agencies and social media experts have arrived at a consensus on the points to be considered while formulation such a policy. These points are elucidated below.

What should the policy cover?

Determine the range of this policy. Determine who, which and in what form can be covered. Accuracy on the reach of this policy is vital for its implementation.

How should it apply to official and personal use?

The policy should list the sites authorized to be accessed by employees/employers during work hours. Further some features of allowable websites may be disabled (Ex: chat service). Further, personal content posted by staff even while not on duty needs to be regulated. This is because any potentially valuable message may innocently slip out in social media. This may be used by anti-social elements, attorney defending criminals or business rivals. This could lead to issues for the organization and the individual concerned including loss of credibility, integrity and even employee job status.

What is its role vis a vis existing policies?

There are existing policies that do handle issues related to social media pretty well. This policy could strengthen them further. At the same time there are other policies beset with loopholes. These have been successfully exploited to nullify any strong execution of the policy. The new policy needs to address this concern.

Furthermore, requesting or retaining individual data and or monitoring needs to conform to laws already enacted by various law making agencies. So a balance needs to be maintained as well.

Conclusion

An effective policy that seeks to keep all sections of the public, employees, employers and law enforcers on an even keel is required. This policy should not give leeway to one and penalize the other. It should also be broad based to help its implementation in different places and circumstances. Finally it should also be futuristic to take into account the changes in this dynamic world of <a

Five long years during which I slowly learnt how to get the most out of this wonderful platform and how to leverage it from both a personal and business standpoint. No doubt about it, Twitter is where it is thanks to the incredible group of third party developers who designed new great twitter tools to get the most out of that, way more than what you can get from the standard Twitter interface.

Twitter’s growth over the past 5 year has been incredible, going from a few thousands to a few hundred millions registered users. For this reason, the typical Twitter user changed over time, moving from the typical early adopter to what I use to call the “average” internet user. I laso know a lot of people who discovered internet just a few months ago (from no-techies to seniors) who are on Twitter already.

Today, I would like to share with you three web-based twitter tools I use everyday that really make the difference when it comes to use Twitter at its best.

Twimbow

Together with a few other tools my company developed, Twimbow was born first of all as a way to satisfy my needs of power Twitter user. Today, I wouldn’t recommend anything different in order to focus on what is really important for you and to get rid of the “twitter noise”. Tons of innovative features like Gmail-like colored labels, rich tags, the monitor, the profile browser and much more help you keep track on what’s going on that really matters for you, helping you save valuable time. Twimbow is a web based social media dashboard that helps you organize your ManageFlitter Logo

ManageFlitter is definitely the best way to manage your Twitter followers and friends. It helps you filter the users you follow according to different criteria and lets you quickly identify users who are not tweeting anymore or that, depending on your personal criteria, are not offering more value to you. Through ManageFitter you can easily clean the list of people you follow and find new people worth following. If you want to get the most out of ManageFitter, I recommend to use it on Chrome together with the “Check All” extension, that lets you automatically check multiple items at the same time (it helps you save a lot of time).

Commun.it

Last but not least, Commun.it is another incredible tool that helps you manage your Twitter community from a different standpoint. In a certain time slot (3 hours, 3 days or always) It identifies the users who are supporting you the most (for ex. by retweeting your stuff), users you should consider to follow, new leads based on the fact they mentioned something you care of and so on. You can also decide to unfollow a list of selected users that Commun.it “thinks” are not worth following anymore, helping you to clean up your “following” list. Definitely a must-have for any Twitter user.

What do you think? Are you using these tools everyday to improve your Twitter “efficiency”? Please leave your feedback in the comment section and feel free to drop me a tweet anytime (I am <a

People around the world have started depending upon the updates, news, videos, pictures, games and so from the sites like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter etc. People nowadays use these sites to find and interact with new and old friends and keep in touch with them. As we see growing number of people using social networks for communication, we see now communicating using slangs and codes to make their conversations fast and effective. The slangs like ASAP, OMG, LOL, BRB have become the part user’s everyday life. These have become a new order of the day.

Digital slang ruling our lives

These abbreviations and slangs are becoming the very part of modern day internet savvy people. Even the oldies who have adopted technology in their daily lives have started catching up with the same. Of late, students have started demanding that such slangs and abbreviation should also be considered in written examination. With pressure growing on these universities, the people governing them are seen coming under this new pressure. Interestingly, according to the BBC report, these social media slang words have been incorporated in the Oxford Dictionary. Now that’s a big feat indeed.

Digital slangs in real time communication

Nowadays, you often hear young people exclaiming OMG instead of Oh My God! Now that’s the latest trend which is seen gearing up, people beside their online communication have started using these slang words in their real time communication. Even the work cultures too these days are dominated by these slangs. The industries which are often dominated by the youngsters are in forefront to adopt them to a great extent. The sectors like Information technology (both the hardware and software domain) and the BPO’s are the first one to catch this new trend. We often hear in their business communication with slangs like ASAP, BRB in their conference calls which they have with their clients.

Are these slangs a threat to language?

This is the debate you often see among the two camps- one who rejects this new idea while other, mostly the young support them. To be honest if we go deep into this dispute, we realize that these are escape routes which comes in the form of lazy shortcuts. In order to be fast, people have started caring the least about the appropriateness of the language. These slangs though would give the users an instant gratification, but the cost which they get this by losing the gleam and beauty of the language.

Last Word

We see a mixed kind of reactions coming from various quarters, with most of the people speaking in chorus that they want to replace the current language with these digital slang used in networking sites. However, the grammarian and the language guardians are strict and adamant in their views and call this trend a gross violation and decay of the language. Despite all the arguments and counter arguments about the digital slang, the fact remains, that these networking communication comes as an easy way to prevent the real and meaningful communication. Such language and slang should be confined to limited forums and platforms and shouldn’t be allowed to embark at places where meaningful and tangible world exist. Let’s not ruin the beauty of language by taking this escape and lazy route.

social media came to rescue! If leveraged intelligently, your stubborn prospects can become loyal customers. Here is how…

Image: jscreationzs / FreeDigitalPhotos.net

1. Tweak Your Communication Channel(s)

Sometimes the problem may be as simple as fishing in the wrong sea! In other words, your prospect maybe very active on Twitter, while you keep wasting your time sending him Facebook messages or emails!

The solution is simple: fish where the fish are which brings us to the tip number 2…

2. Track Them Down!

Finding prospects and “eavesdropping” on them is easier than ever thanks to social media. By doing a simple Twitter and/or Facebook search, you can easily spot your prospect and see what s/he has been up to. This will help you plant your next move on a solid ground.

3. Be Subtle Yet Persistent!

Now that you know where your prospect hangs in the most, time to show up wearing the “subtle” hat! The last thing you want is that s/he realizes that you are hunting him/ her down to close a sale. That’s exactly what I mean by being subtle in your approach.

For example you can tweet about content that is interesting to your prospect and @Mention his/her Twitter name
(among others) to remind him/her of yourself in a soft, non-intrusive way.

Here is a good example of what I call subtle attention-grabbing tweets:
Hi @UserName1, @ProspectName, @UserName2 I know you will love this video! <Link comes here>.

4. Are You Making The Wrong Assumptions?

Many people fall into the deadly trap of generalizing: Couple of your customers may have liked certain features in your product. So, you go ahead and make a false assumption the rest of the world will love it for the same reasons!

The point I am making here is that prospects vary a great deal in their needs and expectations. So, you must grow bigger ears and master the art of empathic listening in order to present your product as a viable solution to their unique problems. If you do, closing a sale will be effortless. Again, thanks social media!

5. Offer Genuine Help

Let’s say that your evasive prospect tweeted about a problem/question that you can solve/answer. Go ahead! Do it and do it fast and, even more importantly, do it selflessly WITHOUT bringing up your past interactions.

You never know! Your kind gesture may refresh his/her memory. If not, your prospect will be grateful and may reward you in ways much greater than you expected.

What If Nothing Worked?

If all your sincere efforts didn’t pay off, do not despair and turn this unfortunate situation into a learning experience. Understand where you went wrong and how you can avoid it in the future and on to the next sales adventure.

Being in business is no smooth sailing: it requires a special breed of people who know <a

Whilst, this may work for some very well qualified traffic sites with a strong online reputation already, but, for the vast majority of web masters just doing this will result in very unsatisfactory results.

So what’s the answer?

A few tips when engaging in any social media activity:

1. Competitor analysis. Find out how your competitors are using social media, how often they tweet, do they post useful and informative articles or are they just posting a lot of irrelevant links? Knowing what the competition is currently doing, not only gives you some useful insight but also sets some goals to work towards.

2. Pimp your page. Whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or another social network platform you’re planning to use. Make sure that your Fan Page, Twitter profile, or LinkedIn page is customised and fits in with your company profile. Doing this just makes you look more professional and stand out a bit from the crowd.

3.Focus on quality and not quantity. The old adage is as valid as ever. This applies to both recruitment of fans/followers but also in posting links and content. Steer clear of schemes where you get thousands of followers in a short space of time, they will either get you banned, or even if they don’t it’s unnatural and most of those followers or fans won’t give a damn about what you’re saying anyway. In short it’s a futile exercise.

4. Get involved with your industry and help people. I’m a strong believer in contribution, and adding something of value and benefit to your audience or industry. There’s many ways this can be done, perhaps get involved with a local charity project or organisation, offer to build a website for free for a community group, develop an app that helps your target market etc. There’s so many ways we can improve the web and useful content and experiences for people, and by doing something creative and a bit different, the link sharing and word of mouth effect will soon kick in.

5. Embed social buttons. Often people get so obsessed with their websites, they often forget other more obvious and noticeable places to embed social buttons. Email signatures are good, and you’ll be surprised how effective just adding a few social buttons for Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn, FriendFeed can be. If you’re writing new press releases and syndicating them to different places, make sure you leave some space for social sharing buttons.

Social Media has become a tour de force in digital marketing, and if implemented and used correctly, it can not only improve your search engine rankings but also your brand and offer a great way for your to reach to your target audience and customer base and open up the channels for quicker communication. If used in the right way, social media can be very rewarding for your company and brand, and dare I say it very addictive – you’ll wonder what took you so long to harness the power of social media.

An interesting article that reflects on how Google + can change the rules of the game of SEO. There is no doubt that Google is the world’s most powerful machine in the field of business based on public relations.

In recent times, and after placing in brand new algorithm that seeks to banish the poor quality of the fabric, it has been much talked about Page Rank, a classification system of trademarks that saw the light back in 2001 and has caused many headaches who are focused on pursuing actions to increase it.

Closely linked with the PR we the paper representing the links … if we extrapolate that the strengths that underlie social interaction, it seems to have less and less weight … yes, the links like the Page Rank are are useful for any business if they are not supported under the fundamental premise of quality that is only possible with good social interaction. Likewise, the PR and ranking of brands, it makes no sense if it is obtained through the actions and the quality of those marks in the fabric … what else makes up the reputation?

Now Google is here to stay + the new commitment by the congregation’s social search engine, which sees the light surrounded the debate, a debate that lights the fuse on the quality and manages to go one step further in the exhibition, connectivity and interaction , as central to the growth in Internet.

What looks like a reality is that today is social interaction, the core of the growth … Google + comes to establish itself as a meeting point between the information and advertisers (brands) so … the exposure and the model of business , this is the SEO … could possibly experience changes from the staging of the more social side of the search engine robot ever more human ….

Some modifications carried out in the search engines, the tangible evidence of these changes … is a quality status updates will be used to measure the reputation of the brand, the editor, Web master … in short, Google could form very creative and innovative to establish a comprehensive SEO in which the algorithms applied to the interaction of Google + have a specific gravity of relevance in SEO

Google + Circles

While links are votes for corporate portals, Google + circles is consolidated as people vote, this is a measure of influence, reputation within the network.

+1 Google Button

+1 Button Google is a metrics-based functionality and is more than evident that statistics provides data of great importance, although it does not have an entirely clear penetration and must face a “readjustment” of the social routine to which users are accustomed.

Google + Sparks

We take a step further with this functionality in Google. Through it you can build a relationship – high efficiency, between a user’s vote and their preferences, tastes and interests, set in the profile.
So we take a step in the comprehensive assessment of positioning, brand SEO and personal SEO merge resulting in a ENTAM in which only the permanent and the interaction and the quality, efficiency and gambling will enable us to achieve progress in our market.

Google + Profiles

Definitely, personal data are the basis for the location, the satisfaction of interests and staging of new goods and / or services that respond to needs.

Interpretation of these data, shown in the profile resulting actions designed to achieve a more integral position, a superb and efficient formula that allows us to advance our brand through quality and protection … all prosumers now, we should not forget.

Google + meetings

Chat with video and audio … it is possible that these talks will derive additional information that might eventually be analyzed and transformed into data to achieve a quality social SEO, which finally seems to be where we are headed.

Location … always there

The configuration of the GPS, which is a key element in Google +, allows brands to target their products using traditional and never well weighted, item location …

Another step towards hegemony or a step towards social integration and the staging of a proposal for efficient business and personal SEO, what seems certain is that Google does not want to stay away from social interaction and the mobile is an innovation, a way of life that is here to stay, gaining more followers.

Photos, exposure of who we are? What we do … the social augmented reality allows us to form links through the elements that allow our recognition. Google+ can track not only our data but also allows Google to understand who we are and what we do in the “real world” … and although it seems a definition of science fiction, should be analyzed from the weight that it, has in the geolocation business, and when dependent on brands and a good SEO.

Teaching people how to use social media and what ‘permission marketing’ is all about can be quite a task, but I’ve found that if you add some humour the job is much easier and people enjoy it much more. It’s a simple equation but one that seems to work!
<p

Social media success and satire!" width="347" height="336" title="Please laugh at my blog! Social media success and satire!" />Social media satire is not all laughs. The cartoon above highlights my feelings after my recent discussions with the directors of a major UK supermarket chain.

Here’s the copy, “I sat for over an hour with the directors of one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains last week and discussed social media, how to address it and how to put a successful campaign together.”

“The directors were amazed at what full social media connectivity can actually do for a brand and I was amazed at how little they really knew about implementing social media. Sorry guys, but it’s not just a Facebook and Twitter account, updating LinkedIn and maybe, building a blog. Social media marketing is not some half -hearted, part time idea, or something one consultant can do on his own; not if you’re a huge corporation with lots of different divisions and millions of things happening.”

So, like I say, it’s not all fun and games!!

Here’s something else a little more serious. A satirical look at the recent riots across the UK and the fact that social media and Blackberry got the blame.

<img

Social media success and satire!" width="434" height="336" title="Please laugh at my blog! Social media success and satire!" />

Is social media really to blame? Social media is a big subject and covers a lot of ground, should we also blame LinkedIn, Quora, Behance and Google+? They’re social media platforms; maybe we should be more specific or perhaps we should also include nujij, virb and xerpi? Social media is social media, right?

That’s enough about riots and who exactly is to blame, I’m sure enough time and money will be spent by experts looking into the cause and effect over the next decade or two.

There you are, a look at social media success and satire and how humour (however you spell it) works very well internationally! I’d be delighted to hear your comments and receive some feedback!<br

People are able to catch up with what’s happening with our friends and family as well as meet new people. These sites have consolidated a global community that we all want to be part of. As we enjoy the benefits of global social networking, most of those in the corporate world have not harnessed the power that they have. These websites have the power to increase or dip your profits. However, there needs to be an understanding of how these websites operate. Let’s look at the mistakes often made.

Don't end up failing by making these mistakes

1. It Doesn’t Happen Miraculously – Building and influencing a sizeable following on the social networking websites does not happen overnight. We often hear of the success that these websites and other companies are enjoying but what we do not know is that it demands takes time, effort and strategy. Patience is another quality that we need to employ if we are to see the fruits of the effort that we put in these sites. Let no one deceive you that it is easy pizzy. Nothing happens without strategic investment.

2. Avoid Spamming. In case you haven’t noticed, spamming is such a repulsive habit on the internet. People hate it. Spamming will get your idea blocked before you even have time to explain. This will surely tarnish the image of the company that you are working on behalf of. By all means, avoid it. Actually, spamming reflects a lack of strategy on your part and quite frankly it’s bothersome and invading. It will not do you much good.

3. Redundant Fans. An unresponsive following is absolutely worthless if you intend to drive a corporate agenda. You of course need an active correspondence from whom you can gather useful information that is going to improve your product or service. So, it is completely pointless to employ spammy software that creates inexistent followers so that your profile appears busy but it really isn’t. Also employing web bots to respond to your tweets might be a self defeating strategy. Take time to build a real audience. It will be worth it in the long Haul.

4. Don’t Seek Instantaneous Results. In this instant and fast paced world, it is not un-usual to expect immediate results. We want results manifesting as quickly as the problems are. Refrain from this mentality. Keep away from systems and ideas that promise instant results. Every worthwhile endeavor is brought forth by investing time and effort.

5. Hysteria Doesn’t Guarantee Results. We always have the tendency to equate profit with hype. Nothing could be further from the truth. You may need to create hype for attention but ensure that you have a strategy to exploit the potential that is in the hype that you are creating otherwise the whole exercise with be like pumping hot air then letting it whistle out. Employing a strategy cannot be over emphasized if you want to seize online opportunities. Research and hire professionals to help you out with strategy and its implementation.

Social media sites have absolutely revolutionized the way we communicate and approach the internet. They have definitely opened great opportunities for business and other activities. However they can also diminish the opportunities if we are not strategic in the way we interact with them. These 5 points should be considered by anyone serious about building a profitable following on these social websites.

Take a few moments and leave us feedback. We do appreciate it.

Webtreats

The following are 6 poor reasons for starting a blog.

1. Competition

Do not start a blog simply because your competition has one and you feel intimidated. The reasons for starting a blog should be your own, derived from the progressive behavior and marketing strategy of your own brand. Remember that what works for one company, may not necessarily work for the other.

Do not let your actions become reactions of your competitions’ behavior. Think before you make the commitment to start writing. If you are blogging just because you think you should, there’s a high probability that you won’t dedicate the time needed to make it successful.

2. SEO

Adding a blog to an existing site is a great way to consistently attract a fresh stream of visitors and increase traffic and exposure. With that said, if the main motivation behind wanting to start a blog is to optimize search engine results, then stop while you’re ahead.

While a blog can deliver better search results, it can only do so with quality, optimized content. Ensure that the initial launch of your blog can be executed with the ability to continuously provide this type of content.

3. To encourage feedback

Admittedly, applying what you learn from feedback to help critique products and services of your company is a great reason to create an online presence. On the other hard, not only are there other facets of social media that perform better for this function, but remember that feedback can be both positive and negative. Ensure that your business is prepared to face both before launching a blog.

4. To generate content

Do not start a blog because you think that someone else will be made responsible for generating content. The most crucial aspect of a blog is that it needs an author that understands exactly what your niche subject area is, and have plenty to say about it.

Whether you believe it or not, the passion you have for the subject will be reflected in the writing. In turn, readers will feel the excitement or lack thereof, making it evermore pertinent that you write your own content when launching a blog.

5. Cutting corners

Do not assume that just writing a blog will bring you visitors. It is a terrible decision to start a blog if you are not willing to back it up with any other marketing.

A blog will never take the place of good ol’ fashion marketing strategies like press releases and research groups. It will only ever work as an extraneous entity of your marketing efforts. Do not utilize it for more.

6. Broadcast marketing

Do not make the mistake of thinking that a blog is just a digital form of broadcast marketing that you control. Again, a blog will never take the place of the marketing strategies you already utilize.

If you can’t market your business without a blog, a blog is not going to save it. A blog is a great way to get more out of social networking and expanding your brand’s presence online, but you need a brand first.

While this may seem negative, it is only because blogging is not simple and requires a lot of thought and patience. Take the time to think through and determine whether starting a blog would be the most effective move for your company. If it is, then do some research and best of luck.

<a

Their popularity is growing by the day, and the newcomer on the block, Google Plus, has grown faster since its launch than all of the others put together. Does this mean that we’re becoming de-personalized as a society?

Are Social Networks good places to make real friends?

I’ve had lots of discussions about this topic, both online and offline, recently. People who aren’t comfortable with computers and the internet seem to fear being left behind, and there might be some truth to that. I know that our friends who aren’t on Facebook are sometimes out of the loop as to what’s going on; it’s certainly not intentional, but we have a tendency to post things on Facebook and then assume that everyone in the gang knows.

Privacy Issues

Of course, some people resist social networking sites because of privacy issues and a perceived lack of in-person interactions. Many of these same people also feel that online networking will cause people to lose their social skills and ability to connect with others if they aren’t in those types of situations often enough.

Personality Problems

Online networking seems to give rise to a couple of problems that I’ve seen. First, it seems that you will always have some people who are just ‘trolls’ and enjoy being negative, mean, and vulgar to others behind the shield of the internet. We have seen some cases where this type of behavior has led to suicides among teenagers who had fragile self-images to begin with, and I am sure there are lots more cases that we don’t know about where these unbalanced people attack others anonymously. Secondly, it seems that people who lack social skills (ie, the painfully shy) will use it to interact online but don’t know how to get past that stage. My single friends talk about this all the time—guys “friend” them on Facebook and talk a great game, but never ask them out, or just disappear after lots of heavy flirting. (Datus interruptus?)

Building Relationships

Because of the widespread acceptance of social media sites, it’s possible to meet people all over the world at any time of day or night. Those with similar interests can find you and reach out to you via cyberspace even while you are sleeping. It is pretty amazing when you think how far we’ve come in such a short time; our sphere of influence increases daily, and is likely much larger than we even realize. However, when you “meet” someone new online, it is important that you get to know them, what you have in common, why they connected with you. The same types of questions you’d ask at a friend’s party are surely fair game in this situation. (Where do you live? Where are you from? What do you do for a living?)

Networking with local folks is probably a great idea for those in the dating world. You can learn a lot about someone, including how they interact with their friends, by getting to know them virtually before an actual meeting. In fact, it can be great to meet someone in person after you’ve known them alone for a time; just be sure that you still have some things to talk about.

The jury is still out about social networking, but it would seem that it can only enhance the process of getting to know new people. Certainly, cyberspace will never replace a warm smile or a handshake from a friend, new or old.

<a

To give you an idea based on market numbers, research conducted by startup company ChompOn showed that a Facebook Like is worth about $8 while a tweet is worth $5. This type of research is always interesting, but rarely is it ever an accurate assessment of your individual situation. While determining the value of your social media fans and followers can be difficult, there are some metrics you can rely on to measure their worth.

Evaluating the worth of your social media followers? Ain't that easy!

Brand Loyalty

The measuring of social media influence is different from one brand to the next, so you need to be creative in order to get a clear view of your impact. Loyalty is an ideal metric to start with. So how do you measure an intangible aspect such as loyalty? By analyzing the actions that encourage your fans or followers to behave in a manner illustrating their loyalty to your brand. For your business, this could entail examining how many of your Facebook fan are being converted to Twitter followers, liking or retweeting your content, or actively advocating the brand to others. Your most loyal audience members are usually your most valuable as well.

Interaction

When it comes to the social media realm, there are a variety of ways a fan or follower can interact with your brand. However, if you want to use interaction as a measuring stick to determine value, you must identify the methods that result in actionable data. This isn’t as difficult as it sounds. For example, some metrics in this category that are likely to apply to your social media marketing efforts include the number of posts commented on, the clicks and impressions from your advertising campaigns, or if you have defined a specific goal for a particular interaction, conversions. Here, it’s all about finding out which user interactions have the most value.

ROI

Another metric that can be used to determine the value of your fans and followers is ROI, aka, the return on your investment. There are a number of ways to do this, but we’ll look at the simplest of examples. Let’s say you invested $40,000 in your Twitter marketing efforts and calculated that the investment resulted in a $60,000 increase in customer value. In this case, your ROI would be 50%. This figure can be calculated by subtracting the cost of your investment from the valued gained, and then dividing the gained value by the cost of the investment.

Trying to put a dollar value on your social media fans and followers makes for a fun exercise, but this practice will never result in 100% accuracy no what metrics you utilize. Not only is every brand different, but so is every user and the interactions they have with that brand. The true value of a fan or follower can be determined only when you understand what makes the individual members of your audience want to be connected to and advocate on behalf of you brand.

If we thought the blast of Facebook and Twitter had been so giddy … best not to analyze the profound changes that occur in regards to the space-time with the staging of Google + and network integration in a context 100% social.

Since blogs came to light, the interaction of users has been an inherent aspect of the use of Internet for all users, however, seems also a reality that we are at present several of those early steps.

The social interaction led to a new world of options, a range of business opportunities that were built around the new habits of consumption demanded by users, more educated and increasingly efficient, and always with the exaltation of the “well done” as a central axis on which to build the reputation, the basic premise of online presence.

Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube and now … Google + channels are interacting in the universe today.

Understanding the Key Concepts of Social Media

Active listening is always present and always necessary, it is here telling us what they want, what they like and do change. And the metric , although we mentioned before that it was more advisable to focus on people, these metrics should be parameterized to give us concrete answers we need, the only way to be efficient and give us time to interact with our users.

Assimilate that today dominates a new concept of success, today the business aspects are very tightly linked to preservation of commitments, successful entrepreneurship today implies a way of life, productivity and variable measurement and a complete change in the definitions of common concepts. Success is now synonymous with consistency and ongoing work, commitment, connectivity, interaction and effort without limit.

Maintenance of horizontal relationships with the leaders and guides required to be implemented in a re-education companies, ensuring that all clients are linked with the brand is essential to consolidate this as the backbone of the business.

And finally, the quality … we are building the Internet, social exaltation occurs because it is efficient resource allocation is based on option generation and construction of networks, communities, circles … high efficiency, this is the biggest gamble the quality, adding value is essential to succeed in a marketing campaign on social networks and now also helps us build … +1, more relevant, more reputation.
<p

The more authority you have on Twitter, the higher value Google gives to your links and ultimately your site. The content your share on Twitter, even though majority of the links are “nofollow” likely play a significant role in search indexing. Optimizing your content for Twitter isn’t difficult, all it takes is learning about practices that work, and repeating.

Clickz, “Consider scanning Twitter’s Trending Topics and Promoted Trends periodically to identify any matches for stories you have in production. The most effective results will probably be multiple word phrases, which will drive lower volume and thus push your tweets below the fold at a slower rate. Once identified, headlines can be written to accommodate exact phrase-matches for those topics and ads.”

Great Content

No surprise here. The better your content is, the more people will share your ideas. Try to put a unique spin on an old topic, or bring up a question on a popular topic. Don’t simply re-purpose articles just to get articles on the web. Your Twitter followers will begin to notice the quality of your content, and will unfollow or not click on your links. One the biggest SEO benefits to Twitter is the traffic driven, don’t cut that lifeline by creating crappy content.

Eye Catching Picture

The first picture a person sees when landing on your content is worth much than a thousand words. A picture plays a big part in whether a person will stay or leave your site. Try pictures that capture the emotional tone of your content. Whether it is directly connected to your content or not emotional pictures work well to keep your readers on their toes.

URL Shorteners

For SEO purposes make sure that the links you are sharing are being redirected to your site with a 301 redirect. Services like bit.ly and goo.gl are great URL shortening services because they pass keyword link juice to your site every time something is shared.

Keywords

Keyword stuffing is a thing of the past. Heck, even exact match keywords may be soon out. Make sure that within your content you are linking to relevant ideas and pages to give readers more insight. When you are sharing on Twitter, put your keywords as hash tags and try to put keywords in the title of your article.

Optimizing your Twitter content isn’t a grueling process; it is about understanding what works and what doesn’t. Impacting search results with content sharing on Twitter is easier than ever and your site shouldn’t ignore optimizing content for Twitter.

<a

It seems as though every business owner wants 10,000 fans on Facebook, 30,000 Twitter followers, and a viral video that will get more hits than the “It’s Friday” video.

<object

Thankfully, there are many great blogs, like bloggodown.com, books, and forums that are dedicated to providing excellent educational resources to help you get started with social media, many of which are free!

Here are a few common misunderstandings that I run into when talking to prospective clients about social media.

An Advertising Medium:

To be successful with social media, you must understand that it is about connecting and engaging with other people. Social media marketing should not be viewed as a way to blast potential customers with your “amazing” deals and promotions. If that is all you do, you will not have an audience. While social media can be used effectively to spread good deals and promotions (i.e. @slickdeals), focus more on interaction with customers and the online community.

Tip: Think about the user. Would you “like” your company Facebook page? Why?

Money, Sales, and Greed:

Money Money Money!

I have talked to so many people who get wide-eyed thinking about how much money they are going to make with a minimal investment in social media. Oftentimes, these are the same people who view social media as an advertising medium, and they clearly do not get it.

Social Media takes time, dedication, and an understanding of social media rules and etiquette. My personal belief is that younger generations have an easier time adopting this, because they have grown up in the digital age where MySpace and Facebook have transformed the way humans are able to interact and stay connected.

Tip: Think about customer “needs” before sales. This does not mean you do not have a strategy to track ROI, but it does mean that you must first think about the user.

It is Easy:

Another common misunderstanding about social media is that it is easy and requires minimal time, thought, and resources. Businesses using social media must first develop a strategy for their SM. What is its purpose – customer service? sales? engagement? information? Once you have a strategy in place to help accomplish its purpose, you must invest time to engage with your audience.

Tip: Plan on spending at least 10 hours a week running your social media campaigns. If you are a larger company, this could be a much higher number.

So, now what?

I hope that this post helped dispel some popular misconceptions about social media. My purpose of this post is not to discourage you from getting involved, but rather set your expectations about what Social Media entails. Social Media can be an excellent tool for companies large and small to engage with their clients, and if done well, can provide an excellent ROI, just ask Zappos.

guest blogging guidelines.

Early on as a blogger I learnt that it is key to create amazing headlines and compelling copy in combination with high quality content. As Twitter continues to add a staggering amount of 560,000 users each day this is more true than ever for Twitter too.

Creating great content on Twitter in a consistent manner is something I have always struggled with. To partly solve this I have started using a new Twitter Tool very heavily in recent times. It is called Buffer and it allows me to easily write lots of great tweets at one point without overwhelming my followers with these updates at once.

How does Buffer work?

With Buffer you simply put tweets into your Buffer and the App in return schedules these tweets for you throughout the day. That’s it.

The best part

What I like best about Buffer is that you can add tweets into your Buffer from any page you are on. Via one of the browser extensions you simply give it one click on the Buffer icon, edit the tweet if you wish and then add it to your Buffer. Here is how I did this with one of Gautam’s posts:

Get shortened link and title by default

How does this help me?

With Buffer you are able to add many tweets at once without having them sent out back to back flooding your followers with all these updates. So whenever I browse the news I can add all these great articles with one click on the icon and they will be tweeted well spread out over the day.

This helps me to tweet consistently and also create better quality of my tweets. I can do this when I am in “content-production” mode and don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the day. I can then jump in and focus on the interaction and engagement on Twitter. My content is already there.

When will your tweets be sent?

By default Buffer has set times of Twitter Peak times during the day at which your tweets will be sent out. Of course you can always go to your home account and change these times very easily. You can add more daily times or delete some. At each of these times one tweet will be sent. Here are mine:

Choose your daily tweeting times

Make your tweets better

Buffer also gives you detailed analytics for all your tweets sent via Buffer. For every tweet you can see a table of Clicks, Retweets, Avatars of who retweeted you and Reach of your tweets. Here is how this looks like for some of my recent tweets:

How well did your tweets do?

What is not so great about Buffer?

One of the things Buffer doesn’t have is a mobile version of the App. Would this be available it would be even simpler to add tweets to your Buffer whilst you are on the commute or waiting in a queue somewhere.

Conclusion

If you think you could step up your Twitter game to match the awesomeness of your blog a little better, give Buffer a go. With Buffer you can easily create a consistency of updates even when you are too busy to be around.

The App currently comes with a decent free version and can be upgraded to a pro plan (5$/mo) at any time.

What do you think about Buffer? Would love to hear your views below.

niche, but character limits alone place strict boundaries on how much you can really get your message across. Similarly, your presence on these platforms can seem oddly disparate.

Establishing a blog isn’t so much blog vs. micro-blog as establishing a hub to create a mutually supportive internal network between your various social media channels.

Setting out your stall

If the gold standard of social media is establishing you as an authority within your niche, and creating a community around that authority, then a blog is a considerable step towards those goals.

As Topshop in the UK have clearly realised, a proper blog gives you the opportunity to really set out your stall in a way Facebook and Twitter don’t. In the same way that publishing a proper book makes you more authoritative in the eyes of the public than a couple of newspaper columns, in the short-format internet a regularly updated, insightful blog means much more than a stream of witty tweets.

Not only that, but amidst the chatter, it gives you somewhere to routinely link back to, that reinforces your brand and provides a larger space for people to get into your world – there’s more content on a blog than a Facebook page, which means more time engaging with your brand, which makes users more likely to buy into your brand.

Taking it on home

Although Topshop have got the idea with their content strategy, where they fall short is in their funnelling.

The blog’s design is closely related to the Topshop website, although the correlation could be stronger. It gives the impression of a web design agency’s rush job of recreating the original site in WordPress, rather than properly integrating it.

Similarly, placing it on a subdomain rather than as a page in its own right is a missed opportunity for visitors to organically navigate their way to products straight from the blog, rather than having to be directed towards them in the posts themselves.
Tighter integration is a clear way to practice a soft sell approach alongside the harder sell of the ecommerce site.

If their blog were more tightly integrated, when linking to it from Facebook and Twitter, they would also be directing people to the main site without actively pushing a product.

Topshop

I’ve taken Topshop as a good example of a company blog, because they advertise it in their shops as well as pointing to it from their <a

They use it not only to show off their products but to establish a more informal character to the brand – it’s clearly a key part of their overall marketing strategy, and provides a hub around which the rest of their online activity can orbit.

At the same time, it still has room for improvement, and lessons for the rest of us can be learned from these mistakes.

(
An increasing number of people are using social media in their daily lives. As always, business must follow the trends of the consumer in order to stay relevant. It’s a simple fact that business goes where the money goes. Many businesses and bloggers have now spearheaded campaigns to improve their social media presence to capitalize off the online communities.

Start Blogging

Companies and bloggers have found a safe and inexpensive marketing haven through social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter. This is a growing trend that has helped some companies stay visible, and free social outlets like these have only made it easier for businesses to stay relevant and competitive. It’s also a way for businesses, who had relied on phone books and newspapers for advertising, to reach a younger audience of potential consumers. For example, Storage Mart, who usually market their self-storage to older adults, created a Facebook page describing their business and linked to tweets of upcoming deals and events that are slated to occur.

Interact with the Community

Forums, both locally and globally based, have done a lot to improve relations with a broader consumer base. Through this media, a company or blogger would be able to field questions and provide tips and advice on a wide rage of topics relevant to the specific needs of the consumer. In turn, this service increases the visibility of the host and allows businesses the platform to advertise their products and services.

Use Video Platforms

Many businesses have started using video platforms as a marketing tools, which until recently was an untapped resource. Through video sharing platforms, such as YouTube, companies have been able to underscore the creative and entertainment aspect of their business. For example, Old Spice commissioned several highly popular commercial ads that went viral producing millions of hits and a huge bump in popularity. What’s so interesting about this approach is that the ad isn’t really about the product at all.
