In today’s blogosphere, countless people pay a few bucks to get a basic wordpress site and are under the impression that, with minimal effort, they will be able to create a money-machine that will endlessly print dollar bills and deposit them into their click-bank account. The truth, however, is that the blogging is actually becoming quite a competitive field. With more and more people setting up shop, the competition is becoming fiercer and it is more important than ever to make sure that you have an edge over your competition. In this short article, we are going to discuss the essential elements for an investment blog.

Original Content

This, of course, goes without saying. It is essential that your blog has a continual stream of original content for several reasons. First of all, it will boost your visibility in search engines, as they will identify your site as a source of consistently original material. Second of all, it will drive more traffic to your site and increase the likelihood of building a real community. If you are consistently releasing interesting and engaging pieces, people will be drawn to your site.

Unique Voice

In the world of finance, this can be a huge edge against the competition. Finance is generally not seen as a very creative arena; therefore, many of the blogs and websites on the internet are quite bland and boring. If you can bring a unique voice to investment material, you can develop a serious edge against much of the competition. In writing, voice is like your identity. It is like your fingerprint as a writer. It is what separates you from everyone else. It includes elements like style, point of view, etc, but at the end of the day it basically amounts to the way in which you capture and engage your audience. If you do it in a unique way, you will greatly increase your chances of beating the competition.

The Right Niche

The investment world is gigantic. A general investment blog will most likely be too broad of an approach. What is the unique niche that you want to capture within the investment world? Perhaps it is online forex trading, or how to start saving for retirement during your late 20’s and 30’s. Or perhaps it is how to successfully transition from working full-time to retirement. There are countless different ways you can brand and build your blog to be unique. Make sure that you choose a niche where you have significant interest. This will not only help fuel your interest and passion during the ups and downs of business, but it will also lead to more content expertise, which will resonate with your audience.

  • The truth is that I may not like a certain topic but if an interesting article on the website catches my eye etc then I will indeed give it a look and comment on the post. It’s always best to be appealing even in a niche market I feel. 🙂

  • Jason, Thank you so much for your post Essential element for an investment blog. Indeed original contents will boost your visibility in search engines, as they will identify your site as a source of consistently original material.

  • It’s original content which Google and readers like, if you’re writing only duplicate content then you’re loosing both Google & readers and without them you can’t set up a successful blog in any niche.

  • Original article should be increase your page ranking for your web site. So, it should be most important one in the blog post. So, i would like to say thanks for Jason for given great post on here. It’s really a great work 🙂

You should also select a topic that interests you and you have knowledge about it. And so you can produce interesting content. It is also important that you like the subject. It gives you the strength to continue to engage in something that you enjoy it. How much you love the your blog ?! 🙂

  • An excellent website has lots of useful information that I could not find it elsewhere.

  • Yep, Google loves original content. This is indispensable. Then we should have knowledge about the topic. Doing research is important, too. That’s how everything works.

  • I don’t follow a lot of investment blogs, but your tips are certainly excellent. And, I believe these tips can also apply to blogs in other niches! Good stuff, Jason.

Come visit my blog too, eh? 🙂

  • So very true. Actually all the three factors you mentioned in themselves are major points that are interrelated. Choosing a niche that one is passionate about and has good knowledge would be a good starting point. Once there is passion there is automatically a unique and real voice. It is no longer a bland set of facts like wikipedia. I like wikipedia as much as the next guy, but for a blog, I like to seem some real voice that says something, takes a stand, argues about a point and is not just neutral all through.

Choosing a passionate niche automatically lets one create high quality content.

  • I really think that in this day and age, a unique voice is the most important part. We had to do extensive research in our niche and I’m still amazed at how many investment companies had the same advice. They were all copying the big fish (CME) and just trying to get some trick down to their company. It completely alienates the investor who wants to understand WHY those investments are being offered. More often than not, they just pay the brokers the most instead of having the client’s best interest in mind.

The advice prevented here is very wise and beneficial. Who wants to be a boring copycat in the wrong niche anyways?
