Back To Basics: Three Blog Promotion Techniques That Still Work
12 COMMENTSThere’s no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to promoting your blog. While it’s fine to use ebooks, audio, video and interviews as promotional techniques, there are some older methods that still work well. Check them out.
Forums are still a great place to connect with like-minded people (or at least people who share your interests). There are dozens of active forums covering almost every topic you can imagine. The key word here is “active” because you don’t want to waste your time on a forum with little activity. If you’re not sure, look for the date of the last post, how many people are online and when the last person joined — these will give a guide to the forum’s health. Once you’ve chosen a forum and signed up, the first thing to do is to fill out your profile. Put something interesting in the about section and add a signature. Be sure to format your signature; it’s worth the effort, as it looks nicer than a plain URL. Search the forum for recent posts or questions you can answer. If you provide value to forum members, some of them will soon find their way to your blog and many might subscribe. It’s still is a great way to build community around your blog.
2. Promote Your Blog With Article Marketing
Yeah, I know guest blogging is the hot thing right now but article marketing remains a great link building tool and it doesn’t have to be hard work if you do it right. In fact, you can tweak your old content to provide articles that many others will find useful. Although there are hundreds of article marketing sites, two of the best ones are EzineArticles and Articlesbase
The secret to success with article marketing is in the resource box. This can contain a brief bio as well as a call to action and can include a couple of links. It’s a great way to identify and highlight the value your blog brings so that when the article is republished people will find your site. A good tip is to use your target keywords so that the articles will come up in search engines. Used correctly, this technique can also help you to showcase your expertise.
3. Promote your blog with social media
When using social media for promotion, the social aspect is more important than the promotion. You will find that connecting with and talking to people, building relationships, answering questions and helping to solve problems will establish your reputation and bring people to your blog. Which social media sites are really worth the effort? It depends on which ones are most popular with the people you are trying to reach. However, very few bloggers can afford to ignore Twitter and Facebook. But do invest some time to find the right social media for your niche.
If you have a personal Facebook account then why not set up a page for your blog, import your posts, and add a mailing list signup form? Some of your personal friends might actually be interested or will spread the word to the people they know we like your stuff. On Twitter, automate posting of your blog posts, remembering to include hash tags so that people can follow the topic easily. Use both sites search features to find relevant pages where you can connect with like-minded people (on Facebook) or topics you can comment on (on Twitter).
Used together forums, article marketing and social media can really enhance your online reputation and profile and build your community from ground up. If you aren’t using them yet, you certainly should be.
