3 Important Things to Ramp Your Blog this Year

It’s a new world – it’s a new start

It’s alive with the beating of young hearts
It’s a new day – it’s a new plan
I’ve been waiting for you
Here I am

~ Bryan Adams

A new year has started, which means new experiences and new ideas and to top it all, a lot of fun.

As a blogger, with the new year, you should try to ramp up your blog. Try to analyze, think, observe and calculate. In short, try to understand what you did in the past year and use it to help yourself and your blog to perform better in the new year.

1. Lessons Learnt

Man is not perfect and is bound to make mistakes. One thing my dad always tells me “Make Mistakes, but try to make new mistakes and not repeat the old ones”. The meaning of the phrase is simple – make note of your mistakes.

Mistakes appear to do no good to people. But, in the long run, the one who makes mistakes might have an upper hand. Why? Because, the ones who make mistakes, know where they went wrong and so, they always know what not to do. If you screw up earlier, then, chances are, you will not screw in your later life.

Remember this:

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison

Once, I had unintentionally modified the title of the article. The article was good, but it did not receive the amount of attention I would have wanted it to have. Actually, the change of the title, changed the whole meaning of the article and thus, people didn’t get attracted because they didn’t like the title.

On that day, I learned that you should be really careful what title is being posted, because it shows up in feeds, feed readers and social media websites and it holds the trump card to your blog’s success.

Flashback – Take a look at what mistakes you made and what lessons you learnt from those mistakes. If you remember the lessons learnt, you will make less mistakes. I cannot guarantee you will make no mistakes in the future, because that is not possible.

2. Detailed Analysis

Analyze your blog in full detail. Take a look at each and every aspect of your blog. It would be good if you can maintain a document or an excel sheet. Look at areas of blog design, blog marketing, social media and advertising.

Compare the results with your expectations. A comparative chart will show – how you fared the previous year. You do an in in-depth analysis and also, analyse what was beneficial and what didn’t work for you.

3. Set Your Goals

New year means new goals. Base your goals on your previous performance. Challenging yet achievable goals should be set.

Make Goal Targets on things such as the “amount of traffic” or the “amount of money” you want from your blog. Or maybe other things “Make it my online cv”.

Along with the goals, you have to think of ways and means to achieve it. A serious plan has to be charted out – which is like a little What-to-do Guide.

4. Experiment

Every great achiever has something unique about him or her. It is their special ability, which differentiates them from others.

Experimentation is the tool to find out your special ability. Try something new and unique. It may or may not be successful, but, after many experiments, you might strike gold and become famous. Even if you are not getting any success, you are always learning something new from your experiments.

Give me your ideas. What will you do this year?

  • setting up new goals is preety easy and making them work for you is hard and many of them already give-up.

    • Vivek,
I totally agree with you on this.
More than setting up goals is executing them at the right time.
Most people set up goals, but don’t execute.

  • All good points. I’d also focus on the 20% that makes the difference and ignore the 80% that gives less returns.

    • that’s ok.
What makes sense to you is the one that should assimilate. The one which doesn’t give you returns it just useless.

  • Very nice points Gautam!

Setting Goals and Experimenting are my faves here! Its important to set goals that we can achieve and not set them too high, so they don’t end in disappointment, and to keep yourself focused on those goals, reward yourself once they have been hit.

Experimenting is also a good thing… Try different ways of writing or different subjects to see what is the most effective.

    Happy New Year! 🙂

  • Great post, how did you get the ad sense code to line up next to your related post?

    • It is simple, you have to use tables in html. left column is occupied by adsense and the right one is occupied by related posts

  • Everyone who is creating a blog page should first establish what the trying to achieve. Many people just want to do it because it is fashionable and they think they can make easy money this way . Lets face it for most who have blogs to not know how to promote a blog or how to use it to the best way.

    • I agree with you John,
Most of the guys are blogging about the same niche instead of diversifying. And some of these people don’t even know the basics of the topic they are talking about. They are in for the money, but because of mal practices, they don’t get anything out of their blog.
