Thanks, Element321~! Yes, some people like slower tweet streams – which is another good reason to follow people 1st after you have seen their patterns and rhythms.

Remember that anyone can send you an @mention whether or not they follow you or you follow them (unless you have them blocked).

Some other things you can use to manage your stream are utilizing Twitter lists, TweetDeck or TweetVisor.com which is browser based (I use TweetVisor). Yes, it’s really about what you feel comfortable handling, ultimately =)

These are some great twitter tips. I generally do not follow most people back without watching their account for a few days.

The hardest part for me is @mentions and keeping my tweet stream slow and steady.
