Drupal seems to be so complicated at the fist look, but after playing with it for some time you will get used to it, and it will be your best site creation platform because it’s flexibility!

I just don’t agree 100% on the first part of your article about Drupal user pages, I am using it on my site and it seem to be working well, it seem to be ineffective but need some work for better results, and of course it needs some CSS work to give it a better look and feel that match your site!
