7 Smashing Techniques to Pull Guest Authors to your Blog

“Be my Guest” – A very common idiom in English language which means that you allow the person to go first and then you follow. Attracting guest authors to your blog is like saying “Be My Guest” i.e you are giving an opportunity to write at your blog.  As I’ve mentioned earlier that guest blogging is a win-win situation for the guest and the host, so it is a really good practice and should be done frequently.

The important point to consider before inviting guest authors to blog is how guest bloggers will benefit from blogging at your blog. Think of this as a product and you want to sell it. In order to sell more, you need to list out the benefits like a sales pitch. These list of benefits should be listed out in a manner, so as to attract many guest authors.

For a good list of benefits, you actually need something which has some weight or value and which would actually mean something for guest bloggers. Here are some of the techniques that can attract a horde of guest bloggers:

1. Traffic and Subscribers

The reason why guest blogging started was to gain subscribers and traffic. Naturally, guest authors would like to write for a blog which has a huge inflow of traffic and also has a large subscriber base. Huge traffic and subscriber count can mean a lot of traffic directed towards their website and hence solve the sole purpose of guest blogging at that particular blog.

2. Promote guest posts

If you don’t have a huge subscriber count or daily traffic, you can still promote your guest posts. You can try to promote them via social media websites that can help in increasing traffic to your guest posts. Along with that you can link to them in your posts, so that they get additional traffic from it.

3. Make a special guest authors page

Making a special guest authors page is a great way to promote guest blogging at your blog. Firstly, they get some backlinks to their site and also they are mentioned on the authors of the website which makes them feel special.

4. Add an about the author box

An about the author box is better than the by-line because it includes a gravatar. A gravatar is good for branding purposes as images are usually linked to their brands. Also author boxes are designed in order to attract readers, which means a lot more exposure to the guest.

5. Easy Process

Guest Blogging should be made really easy. The reason why it should be super easy is because if the process is tedious, then guest authors will be put off and they may decide not to write at your blog ever! And you don’t want that to happen to your blog. Right?. So, make it very easy for them and also provide them proper support so that they don’t go wrong.

6. Contest

Contests can be a big driving force. If the prizes are good and relevant to the audience then bloggers would love to compete in it. To make a guest blogging contest successful, the prizes should be very appealing and the contest should be marketed well.

7. Pay to Write

If nothing is working for you or if your blog is relatively new, then the only option is to pay the authors to write. A good example is WPWebhost which pays 150$ per article.

There is no instant mantra to get a ton of guest authors. The only solution is to follow any of these techniques and along with that grow your blog’s influence.

  • Gautam, you make some excellent points here. I have been asked to guest post by other sites, but there was no fantastically easy log-in interface for the guest blogger. Can anyone set up additional log-ins powered by WordPress or is this a feature specific to certain themes?

You truly know how to make a guest blogger feel at home! Thank you so much for the fantastic experience and the tips offered here!

  • I like the idea of having a separate static Authors page where we post our guest author policy. One could include links on that parent page to sub-pages where the profiles for each guest author as well as brief blog descriptions and a link to their blog could be posted. We can also use Authors widgets. And, another approach is to create an Authors category with sub-categories under each individual author’s name. Then readers can click a guest author’s and easily find all their posts on the blog in question.

  • Great tips as always brother, personally all though I have dabbled in accepting Guest Posts, overall the bottom line is that not everyone can write for my blog. Hence the reason I no longer worry about getting guest posts, having the break is good but overall it’s not something I will be hunting for anytime soon.
