The Comment Marathon Commenting Contest

Comment-Marathon-Commenting-competitionThe valentine season is on. On this love season, I am hosting a commenting contest (The Comment Marathon). This contest is being hosted to encourage readers to comment and start a discussion at Blog Godown. I want the readers to engage and learn from this discussion as it is a good medium to meet and make relationships with fellow bloggers.

I have installed a top commenter’s widget at the bottom of the sidebar. I had reset the comment counter to zero yesterday. But the comments will grow eventually. The ones that reach the top of the comment leader board will win the prize.

The Prizes are as follows:

1st Prize :

Amazon Gift Card worth 25$

10$ Cash

2nd Prize:

Amazon Gift Card worth 20$

3rd Prize:

2000 Entrecredits

One month 125×125 ad spot sponsored by Wchingya

One month 125×125 ad spot sponsored by BlazingMinds

Rules of the contest:

  1. No Spamming: The comment should not be spam. Don’t try to add links to promote your own products, or write about abstract topics. Make sure that the comment is relevant to the content.
  2. Add Value:Don’t try to just use comments like “Great Post” and “I like It” which do not add any value. These type of comments will not be considered. The comment should be atleast 3 sentences long.
  3. Multiple Comments: There is no limit to the number comments but if you are submitting multiple comments in a single post then it is allowed, only if there is feedback by other commenters in between any two comments.
  4. You can comment on any post (new or old) and your comment will be counted.
  5. As I am using an automated plugin, so to prevent any spam, I will use my discretion to remove comments which I think are not complying to the rules.
  6. The top 3 commenters will win the prizes mentioned above.

The contest will end on the midnight of 28 th February. And the results will be announced on 1st March.

  • Sounds amazing! This is good not only for commentators to win the prizes (although we want to) but also for us to connect with and know each other better.

It engages the visitors to actually leave their opinion/comment and not just visit and then leave like a “hit and run” hopper. It’ll also help in reducing our blog bounce rate.

    Nice one, Gautam!

    • Yes, it is a strategy to improve the discussion among fellow bloggers and build close network of like minded people.

  • Hey, this sounds like a good challenge. Count me in. I like commenting here anyway so maybe I can crank it up a notch. Thanks

  • This is so cool, not only because we get to win these prizes but people get curious when reading other comments and click on over to other commentors’ sites. So in the end it helps us out too!

  • Always a nice idea and treat for your contributors when you reward them for getting involved, best of luck to everyone!

  • wow that’s really cool..
I too announced top commentator award..
    cheers…

  • This approach to encourage commenting is a great idea. It appeals to the competitive nature within … even if I don’t win, it’s fun competing. What will be even more interesting is to see if the level of commenting continues after the contest. I mean, hey, everyone’s busy …

  • What a great way to encourage your community to have their say! Not sure if I will make the top three but hopefully I will get onto the top commentators.

  • hmmm, wondering if the price of the prizes are worth getting more comments? It’s almost like using adwords to drive your adsense clicks up.

The real question is, are people influenced by money? Will they comment more? Will it force them to come up with something just to be included? This shall be an interesting test. I’ll look forward to the results. Good luck!

    • Nice comment there, Jewelry Secrets.

Most people don’t really care about the prizes. They just want to be rewarded for their effort sometimes.

      • Yes, I agree, I think rewards in any form, do encourage people. It’s not about how much money, but it is about getting an incentive to do something that will also help you in learning (via the discussion).

  • By the way, I don’t think the Amazon gift card is anything worth for commentators who cannot shop on Amazon like me, as I’m from Malaysia. Correct me if I’m wrong here.

It doesn’t matter anyway. Connecting and meeting new friends by commenting is our main purpose.
